kinetic sculpture creations

these are some of the creations the pupils came up with.

kinetic sculpture

While planning the art camp, I Googled kinetic sculpture and came upon so many interesting concepts. These are some of the examples I found, and then I found structures they could be inspired by.

I took my Grade 11 Visual Art learners to T.O.Strand in Leisure Bay last weekend for an Art Camp.  We did all sorts of creative stuff, the idea to bond and be creative outside of the box.

"Art is the only way to run away without leaving home" - Twyla Tharp

I have been paired with an artist in the USA in a paper exchange project. There is a new theme for every month and the idea is that you post an envelope filled with interesting "papers" which will then be used by your partner in collage work.

The theme for November is postage and mail.

family gathering

My nephew, Dylan Corns and his fiance', Cassie got married in Kimberley this weekend. The whole extended family came from all over the country to join in the festivities.

Karin Miller - collage-artist

I first came across Karin Miller's images while on holiday in Mozambique. Some of her collages (Photoshop) were used to illustrate recipe pages in a magazine. My favourite medium is collage and i was so inspired that I planned to make similar compositions of the food prepared by members of the family while on holiday. My three sisters and their families, my dad and sister's mom-in-law all had a turn to prepare a meal for the whole family. I took many photos of the food, but have yet to compile the works.

I love this one of P.W.Botha.
Most of her images have a strong local content and
are a feast of visual symbols and clues.

In the October issue of DeKat there are the most wonderful collection of new works.

The ones at the top are antelope skulls and horns.

daisies

I had a wonderful day on Saturday - my birthday. We had breakfast at Folley Fields Nursery and I bought some more Barbeton Daisies.

It was such a luxury to spend all weekend at home relaxing as the past two weekends have been filled with all kinds of obligations.

 - can't wait for the school break - I'm taking the bus to Port Elizabeth to spend a couple of days with my sister, Caroline. She is a master at the art of chilling, which I really need!

That;s me in the front left foreground, my dad, David, with Hilda on his lap, Carol next to me and Stephanie at the back on a "Koppie" on the farm where we spent our childhood - Normandale in the Southern Free State.
Although I love living in subtropical KZN Natal, I love visiting the Free State and getting lost in the wide open spaces again.

Matric Art Exhibition

My matrics have had a hectic couple of weeks with the disruption of the strike, only to get back to school and have to get their final exhibition up by Tuesday, 14 September.

They are absolute stars, though, as they didn't blink an eye and are putting their work up as I speak.

Art Camp 2010

We have been taking our matrics on an Art camp for longer than I care to remember. It has become quite an institution and a wonderful way of creating a bond within the group.

As this year has been a year of change and disruption, the group was small, but this did not diminish the fun we had. We have our own site at T.O.Strand, just North of Port Edward.

The weekend includes Land Art and various fun activities.
